Yes, it works exactly like that. The problem comes in when you add three months back to Feb 28; you get May 28, but humans often expect to get May 31. (The same humans expect that if you subtract 3 months from May 30, and add them back, you should get ... um ... May 28, no May 30, no wait, May 31, no wait ... ummmmm ...)
