Have you set breakpoints on these lines or are you expecting the program to 
stop automatically?  I know this sounds obvious but I'm trying to understand 
better what you need help with and I don't want to assume anything.

Another obvious question (sorry), how well do you know the RPG cycle?  This 
will help determine if the issue is with the debug method or an understanding 
of what is happening in the program.  The cycle is so rarely used these days I 
wonder sometimes how many of us remember how it works.

If the statement is executed the program should stop regardless of where the 
statement is in the execution cycle.
