I think that the compiler should be able to figure out a way to make it happen w/o requiring a constant. But, until it gets "fixed", try looking at the QECCVTEC (convert edit code) / QECEDT (convert edit) APIs. There is another API (probably QECCVTEM) that works with edit masks.

many different edit codes.
