You'll want to use the "Digits" scalar function instead of  "Char". For
example:

Select Digits(mm) Concat Digits(dd) Concat Digits(yy) As MyDate

As a side note, try to use "concat" instead of "||", in order to avoid any
potential CCSID issues.
