I actually have done that with some of my screen programs, but is still
requires the test of for '0001-01-01'  like
If date field = d'0001-01-01'
Move zero to numeric field
Else 
*MDY move date field to numeric field
endif

this works o.k., but I was looking for a way that it could be implicitly
defined (as in the case with the zero suppression on the Y edit code).
I was also looking to see how others are handling this situation as a rule.
(not intended to start another long standards debate.)

Why can't you just define a 6 digit numeric field for the output. Only move
the
date into this output field if its not 0000/01/01 (*iso)?
