Create a normal DISK file in the QTEMP library...  write your data
into that...

This'll give you far more ability to extend it than a subfile would,
and will also work seemlessly in a batch program, and won't mask your
intent to other programmers when they look at your code.

If speed is critical, you might consider using a user space instead.
Which can also be set up to automatically extend itself.
