This thinking that Shops make things mandatory is really a foreign concept
to me.

You mean you say "thow shalt not" with respect to an opcode or coding style
and people listen? Maybe they pretend like they listen, but do they actually
obey? So what do you do when you buy a piece of code and they use the "thow
shalt not" style? Oh wait, you won't have to worry about it, because
software vendors will NEVER use the CF spec because it is not backwardly
compatible!

You know most AS/400 shops don't upgrade to new releases, and many more
don't upgrade versions. There are many reasons for this. The most pressing
being that IBM doesn't make it easy to upgrade. I seldom receive a letter in
the mail that says "Hey, we announce a new release/version of OS/400, to
order, simply call this 800 number or return this letter with your
authorization." Instead I get a notice in the mail a year or two later that
says, "Hey you didn't upgrade, so we're discontinuing support for your
release of OS/400." Great, that makes me want to conform, almost as much as
those shops that use the "thow shalt not" directives, NOT!
