There are things involved in thought that are not understood
yet, and there are things that come into the "thinking
picture" that occur outside known biology, not to mention
known physics.

Like maybe I ought to tell our VP to claim the prize
somebody's offering. Every time I remember his answering the
phone while I'm in his office, he has his hand hovering over
the phone for 10 seconds *_before_* it makes a peep.

We can give them lots of "human-behavior" appearance, for

glorified versions of what I saw on one of the early PC's

programmers thought it'd be cute to make it come up with a
message, "Come on! We don't have all day!"

Or Hal, as portrayed in the novel 2010 or the movie.
Personified by his "maker". They are bits and bytes, on-off
switches. But they can sure be used wrong! And they have
been and they will be.

| Hi Neil -
|
| I wonder if it will turn out to be a "The Moon is a Harsh
Mistress" kind of
| thing - a science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein
where the computer
| gained self-awareness and became "alive" as a result of
its capacity
| reaching the same order of magnitude as the human brain.
