combination, I might say, of U*x-style permissions and windows-style
attributes. The latter include read-only, hidden, archive, and system, just
as you would see if you look at the security tab when looking at file
properties in Windows.

Vern, trust me, I've grokked this at an expert level. I'm saying our
community is littered with antipatterns at the intersection of Unix file
permissions and OS/400 authorities.

Don't use authorities for stream files in the IFS if Unix permissions will
work.
*
Learn to use Unix group permissions within the IFS.
*
If you must use authorities (almost never IMHO), K.I.S.S. applies.
