Hi Tom

I've never used *PDF for MFRTYPMDL,  - but I figured IBM's printing manual should say something - here's a link to the *Basic Printing *manual for 7.5 - https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/ssw_ibm_i_75/rzalu/rzalupdf.pdf - and a tantalizing line from the manual -

The MFRTYPMDL special values of *PDF, *PDFEMBEDTT, and *PDFIBMWT refer to *WSCST objects with the attribute of CTXFORM.

I looked up CTXFORM *WSCST objects on a 7.5 machine - there are 8, 7 have PDF in the name - I think QCTXPDFA is newer.
QCTXPCLRAS
QCTXPDF
QCTXPDFA
QCTXPDFMBD
QCTXPDFMB2
QCTXPDFWT
QCTXPDFWT2
QCTXPDF2

Your device description doesn't have the WSCST parameter set (Workstation customizing object).

Now when I want to print to a PDF, I usually use OVRPRTF, which has a TOSTMF parameter. CRTDEVPRT doesn't have a TOSTMF parameter, so I think it's not the whole story. I'm intrigued by the idea of using one of these *WSCST objects, then use an OVRPRTF to specify where the resulting PDF goes - *IF *that actually works!

I suggest finally that you contact IBM support, they can be extremely helpful.

Cheers
Vern

Can anyone give me information on MFRTYPMDL(*PDF) in a printer device description? I am converting a customer to be hosted on our IBM I and need to configure the printer with the description below on our system. It works there but not here. I tried *HP5 for the host print transform and made no difference.
It eventually issues CPD337F.
They are on V7R3M0 and we were on V7R4M0.
I cannot ping the printer, but I also cannot ping one that is actually working.
MFRTYPMDL(*PDF) may have nothing to do with it, but never saw that used before and my google searches came up empty.
I verified with the user that they print a hard copy, not a PDF, and it is a multifunction device.
