Just FYI for this thread. I got this info from IBM when asking about the "lack of a v7.5 samba PTF"

Hi Bryan, SAMBA is discontinued. There is no PTF. IBM documents the products that are no longer supported here.

I have used smbclient which can be used to send/receive files without a server daemon running.

If it's not in your path, you probably don't have SAMBA installed.

Should be in /usr/sbin/smbd
