Thanks for the hint! But By pinging the printer (converter box) itself, I have a "true" end to end test. Handling this situation likeise would be more complicated if I had more than one converter box/printer.

Or if you want to keep it simple, ping the loopback IP address commonly used. But that doesn't rely upon the comm interface being up.
