ACS is a ‘deployed’ application. Yes, it will run especially on Windows with a simple unzip and run. BUT, there is an ‘install’ script and a corresponding startup file for each different operating system Windows, Mac, Linux. The install, will update things like the system registry so that various file types are recognized and opened with the correct application ie..ACS. In addition, there are some native windows things that are leveraged to improve startup time and runtime performance. Once that install script is run, updating to new levels of ACS is pretty simple… its just the Jar file that needs to be replaced, but its recommended that the install script be run just to be sure that any updates and improvements are leveraged.
