Hello Scott,

Date/time/timestamp have worked that way "forever."

Well, I'm still a relative newcomer to the platform. :-)

I think we've had them in DDS since V3R1, but I could be misremembering... it was too long ago!

I have not yet done more serious "porting" of my applications to V3, so I also can't tell.

I need to learn about ways to properly check for errors without some BIFs not available in ILE RPG on V3. Example: %STATUS(MYPF).

At any rate, I don't think anyone today will have trouble with the ability to use them.

I fully agree.

What do you find cumbersome in RPG? I have always found date/time/timestamps very easy to use.

Well, if you want to read or write a date/time/timestamps from/to an RPG variable, you first need to MOVE or or EVAL the content from/to the internal/external variable. I feel that's cumbersome compared to the handling of string, or numeric variables.

Of course, it's *much* less painful than handling date/time values with C. ;-)

:wq! PoC
