When getting started with performance on IBM i, I always recommend using the Performance Data Investigator (PDI) with Collection Services data. This is included in the base operating system and the Performance Tools product (5770-PT1) is NOT required to view Collection Services data.

Here is a link to an article I wrote on PDI:

The PM for Power Systems offering linked to in the original post is mostly useful for high-level trends over time, but if you need to get into the details of performance issues on the system, you need other tools, such as PDI, Performance Navigator, or iDoctor - although iDoctor is overkill for 90% of the IBM i shops. These tools are simply user interfaces built on the performance data collectors that are all part of the base operating system. You can find a high-level summary of these performance data collectors in this blog post: https://dawnmayi.com/2012/12/12/performance-data-collectors-in-ibm-i/

The IBM i performance data collectors are the best in the industry and the IBM i wait accounting technology is a huge differentiator that no other platform has. https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/ibmi/library/i-ibmi-wait-accounting/

I do training on PDI for those that need to go deeper into its features or need help understanding what all the charts tell you. I also do performance health checks and diagnostics. There’s much more to performance than hardware (CPU, disk, and memory). While HW capabilities are critical, there are many other components of performance.

Do you have a specific question?

Basically, question is "WTF?".

Never played with this stuff before.

Cited IBM doc suggests it's something like enable PM Agent and it sends
your data to IBM. And what?
