FTP is an old protocol and "just works". So, most knowledge about it's special abilities already faded from most people's knowledge. I'm glad to bring back some memories. :-)

Not natively. Just look yourself what you can do. Log into some host with ftp and type HELP.

Exactly. But please don't ask me about off-by-one-errors. :-) And since the command line FTP client (tested with V7R2) appends local files per default, it's a lot easier to transfer stuff that way. Basically it's also working with put but you need to tell the remote server to append to the destination file before.

Sending commands to the remote server is supposed to happen with the SITE command but I didn't get the IBM i client to behave like I want. But I think you have a starting point to do research on your own.
