The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

2 - For a summary of preferences/dislikes one should probably google
questions like vi vs vim or what enhancements does vim have over vi
Aside from silly flames, it comes down to the *completeness* of vi and the
*speed* of using vi in a terminal session versus the cryptic nature of the
commands.
Unix hacks are used to vi because a) it's been there forever, and b) the
"cryptic commands" tend to be the same as those in all the basic suite of
classic Unix pipeline stages,
e.g., / for search (same as more), n for next search match, p for previous
s/this/that/ for substitutions *etc. ad. inf.*
As for vim, *amazingly* powerful with command enhancements and also
usability enhancements for those terminals that have color and use mouse ,
e.g., your TERM=xterm
in PASE.
You are better off to google for a tutorial and to google for a vi cheat
sheet.
Or if you are a bedtime reader and delight in lulling yourself to sleep
while learning, get *Vi and Vim*.
