I've seen that for the past 20 years and worked with many clients to help
do just that.

Modernizing has went through a lot of stages over the years... scrapers,
GUI, Windows (think visual RPG, etc) , but I think now most use web
browsers as the client. Put together a nice responsive site and you have a
winner.

If you're an RPG shop you've had many options to "modernize" to web apps
for many many years, with a lot of different ways to do it. With open
source there are even more (even though the end result is really the same).

I personally find RPG with HTML/CSS/JS and jQuery for RPG shops to be a
good route (a mix of RPG and open source if you may). The hardest part is
learning everything but the RPG. But if you have a team that can help in
that regard, things can go rather smooth.

The biggest stumbling block is people hear RPG and think "web? lol!" But
all it's really used for is the business logic to spit out data in XML,
JSON, or any other format for the thin web client end to arrange and
display how you want.

I'm just curious if others have run into this as a reason to 'modernize'
their applications.
