Re: dont know ip address for lan console or ethernet line

I would try in this order:

1) Check you are plugged on the right adapter to the right port

2) Try with Wireshark , NMAP or a port scanner to detect the IP Address

3) If you cannot power down your system don't try to reload with the CD. Usually the stardard procedure involves powering down and disconnecting power cables till you have the LAN Console software up and running.

i tried the locate console option. i plugged my pc and the iseries (lan console) into a router. i set my pc for a 192.168 value since i believe that was the last address used for the iseries. I hit the search button, but it returns nothing.

It almost seems like i need to do a reload (have the cd's) to reset everthing back. or is there a way to reset from the control panel?
