I think that for the i to send a mail with a virus the programmer will have to intentionally attach an infected file.

No virus will get itself into the mail, because PC virus do not execute in the i. And the list of i specific virus is...

Are you saying the i won't send viruses or it will ?

I think you're trying to say is that if a message is relayed through a protected mail relay it gets scanned, but on an IBMi relay it won't ?

If that's the statement I agree and that's one of many reasons to use a Barracuda or other device.

An usual reason to use a mail relay is to avoid sending virus. I do not think it will happen sending directly from the i.

Again, this is incorrect. I don't think you quite understand yet the
purpose of a mail relay/router that most shops DO use and how to set that

In regard to your assertion that most email generated on IBM i does get
forwarded to a relay service (you've listed a number of 3rd party relay
services), how are you so sure about that?

What I do understand is, that is what you offer and promote. What about
those of us who just want to send email directly from our IBM i
applications? People should know that's built-in to the platform - no
internal, nor 3rd party relay is required.
