Sorry, I should have added how; I normally do this by having all my image
catalogs in the same root folder (/imgcat) with ALWSAV(*NO) set.
The image catalog object itself will still get saved as it lives in
QUSRSYS, but the contents will not get saved.

You will need to allow for this in your recovery either by rebuilding or
restoring the image catalog data.

I generally leave the image catalog data for PTFs on the system so that
when I go to put the next round of PTFs on the space is already available
and allocated, I simply delete the old ones and replace with the new.
