Absolutely true.

With leasing the amount spent is fairly flat every year and even with upgrades rarely goes up, often goes down. What you get: a) More POWER, b) Less energy used, c) Less space used. Importantly (VERY) you can always run the most current O/S levels. If you stay in a 3 year hardware cycle you'll always be able to be current on OS.

We are currently working with a company that has a model 300. We are working hard to get them into our cloud because that 300 is so MASSIVE of frame and ittybitty of brain that it really doesn't make sense for them to have a whole machine any more. BUT they are talking about sourcing another 300 putting it at their other office, sending *SAVF every night with poor man's HA. Throwing good money after bad. And they have custom coding done. By an old guy, because they can't use ANY current stuff PERIOD. They are delusional that 'everything is OK' because their only failure so far has been disk drives and they keep finding more.

Agreed that what they have is BROKE. They just won't admit it....

However, that crowd tends to redefine broke to fit the status quo. "Boss,
I tripped and broke my leg." Boss reply "That's not broke! Walking on

evolutionary ancestors got by without legs for millions of years!" (if you

I'm really in the camp that one should lease IBM Power equipment. Makes
upgrading so much easier financially.
