Hi Dave

Yes, I considered that and haven't ruled it out, but it does get me into
doing a lot of maintenance on the i and using RPG (which I was trying to
avoid). Deploying compiled programs is a bit more effort than being able to
run a central script or command against multiple systems. I'd really like
to be able to maintain the SQL on a central machine and just run it against
each i and avoid the change control aspects) of doing that.

I suppose I should have stated that one of my goals is a least touch
approach on the remote/target systems.

I do appreciate the feedback and I may do something like this, but it is
probably what I am trying to avoid.

The one thing I did really wish I could easily do that did not work well
oevr ssh was the running of SQL on each LPAR. For instance, if I wanted
to
collect PTF information on each system it's just a matter of running a
SQL
statement on each machine and collating the output. I could not find
(and I
am still looking for) a simple way of doing this.

It is "simple" enough to use a single RPG program and embedded SQL
to access multiple databases (one local and the rest remote) for the
purpose of collating such information. You just have to set up the
database directory entries required using the WRKRDBDIRE command. I do
this for both DB/2 UDB on the IBM i and for other (non-DRDA) databases
such as MS SQL Server, etc. Of course, the non-DRDA databases require a
gateway program running on the IBM i. I use Dieter's AppServer4RPG (found
at SourceForge) for this. The following are my remote database directory
entries. The last three are IBM i systems.
