I just tried it on our 7.2 Dev box and it works. I like it!

I have no idea how to search IBM for information on this, if it
actually happened.

I performed a revised web search that led me to an effective followup
to the above v5r1 reference, and one specifically mentioning v5r2. So I
found, sadly, that they used a DTAARA implementation instead of the IPE,
and not only that, the effect is triggered merely by existence [though
not tested, nor likely would I be able to, the effects for authority]
rather than by an actual value set for the data area, and that the data
area is global [system-wide] per in just one library QUSRSYS vs a
library list [or QTEMP] :-( Reasons why I dislike Data Area
implementations [despite having had provided some myself].

Subject: V5R1 PTF for DSPJOB file I/O details instead of activation
group default
"Yep - finally ! When you see a dataarea switch in a PTF it's often the
precursor of a permanent solution in a 'future' release ! ..." <-- though
in this case, seems probable, that DtaAra implementation will be found
to be /the/ permanent solution, rather than a more appropriate IPE
implementation.
