Well, that does confirm that Python isn't installed properly on that
machine. But if it *were* installed properly, instead of getting the
version information as the page says, what you more likely would get
is a message to the effect of "I don't recognize the option(s) you've
tried; start over with -h to get help".

What the page *should* say is to try either -V (capital single-letter)
or --version (two hyphens).

As I look at this more I think the "how to obtain" website hasn't been
updated for the Python option (aka "Option 2"). It was written when
Option 1 (whatever that is) was the only option (other than *BASE).

Option 1 is Node.js. And that does have a fairly recent update, which
I am pretty sure is included with SF99713 (and available separately).

I may retry this installation on our "test" lpar so that I can IPL the
snot out of it to get PTF's updated. If that does it, then I'll IPL our
"development" lpar.

I appreciate your attempts to get this working and reporting your
findings. I still strongly suspect you don't really need to do SF99713
just to get Python (or Node.js for that matter) working properly. I'm
sure it's recommended, but it's hard for me to imagine that it's
required.
