Interesting, why does 7.1 has such a shorter lifespan compared to v7.2?

Look at the chart on P11 of the PDF. It would imply that the end of support
for V7R1 is sometime in 2017 and a new version (IBM i Next as nomenclated on
the earlier charts) would be available about then. That's a good planning
tool. It also shows support for V7R2 out to 2021. That's a long time!
