We found that we were getting a large number of varied off virtuals over time.
IPL does not vary them back on.
Reason for the nightly delete.

The number at the end (four digits) are really hex numbers so while there is a limit, practically it's not a problem.
The system does reuse device descriptions when it can. Why delete the devices and make the system work so hard to recreate them? There's very little value to that unless there is a software issue with the device name.
Older BPCS versions used to rely on the device name for instance.

I never see a virtual named higher than QPADEV0099?
Even though I didn't hit the max, is there possibly a naming issue?.
No errors on iSeries side.
Received below error message on remote server.

I delete all virtuals with a AJS job every night.
