How did he get admin rights to his PC?

One of my clients has me use one of their laptops to connect to their
network. Any time I need to install software (or a patch to iNav), I have to
create a change control ticket, describe what I'm doing at the Change
Advisory Board meeting, and then have somebody from Field IT grant me admin
rights that last for 24 hours.

DILBERT! (But I repeat myself...)

Seriously though it's an issue. My brother works for a firm that let's
just say was a prominent provider of products in "Office Space". He
works on software that takes what their vendors can provide, lets the
sales force sell that and turn it into plant orders. Good stuff. Because
that software is on his PC he gets *ZERO support from corporate help
desk. He's gone rogue they say as has his team. And the software is
mandatory to do his job!

AGAIN I'm not picking on you but..... DILBERT! Management should be
DEMANDING their staff use such tools. Directing them to be more
efficient. Sure developers should be asking for better tools and better
training etc but it's management's direction that should be leading
staff to ILE and RDi and SQL and and and....

Management? Ha!

We have a 3-user floating license and are currently trying to get RDi
installed on our workstations (I have the trial version installed) and
going thru the bureaucratic pain of getting approval from the company to
set up the Rational License server. It requires at least four documents
to be prepared and approved by various levels of management.

One of our developers today contacted one of our European IBM i
developers (they are in another group) and inquired about whether or not
they are using RDi. The European developers work in Switzerland - he
replied 'corporate rules prohibit installing that software..."
