I have no idea what the problem was. The tech, whom I have never met
face-to-face, said he would contact the System i tech. I finally made it
through to the System i about 1715 CDT. Interestingly, the tech never told
me what was done at the remote site BUT I noticed that the system had been
IPLed at 1603. I asked what the problem was, but so far no response. I'm
guessing that they were stumped that I could figure out that it had been
re-booted.

I have got to go down to the remote location and see what and how the setup
is configured.

This is a system, by the way, that was used by a company for which I worked
a few years ago but went out of business. Because it was a regulated
company, the owner has to be able to issue reports to state regulatory
agencies. Which is why the system is housed by the BP now. The owner pays
me a retainer to check on the System i periodically since it lost a disk
drive for > 3 months (RAID 5) once and no one at the BP even noticed!
