Paul,

Interesting why you choice a 5901 to drive the disks. I would never think to use a 5901 as it has no cache and would be very slow performance wise.

Drive replaced.
Parity rebuilt - 9 hours,
8 drives in raid set
Model 099 Striping across all drives,
73% full.

Ooooh yeah that 5901 is 'small of brain' (and cache too) so you are right, likely closer to the 12 than the 6 hours I'd bet.

Good thing it's a test partition eh?? :-)

Larry,

The CEC 5901 disk controller will make it worse. Back when 1st built this LPAR, it was long and slow.
If I had an extra disk slot, I would include hot spare.
Here are some times IBM sent me a while back.
I'm thinking 6 to 12 hours.

Well as a 10K RPM disk it should take 50% longer to fail than a 15K
RPM Disk, right? :-)

Just a suggestion that Hot Spare would be a great idea with these vary large and somewhat slower disks. I'm going to peg rebuild time on a drive that size at 6 Hours or more from the time IBM physically replaces the disk unit.
