Maintenance on the libraries is $300/mo. Maintenance on the internal tape
device is negligible. By eliminating that $300/mo I was finally, after 25+
years of trying (and 3 CEOs), able to swing a deal whereby we get 1) online
backup, and 2) disaster recovery. If the tape libraries didn't go, then
the DR would not have come.

We're saving ~100gb.
Full system restricted state save takes ~75 minutes.

Dup tape library to tape library takes 39 minutes. (Early Oct)
Dup tape library to virtual takes 42 minutes. (Early Oct)
Dup virtual to tape library takes 33 minutes. (Early Oct)
Dup tape library to tape device takes 65 minutes. (Today)

Jeff,

Just curious, why are you dropping the libraries?
How much data are you saving?
Also curious, How long is the save to tape. Dup tape to tape, Dup tape to
virtual?

Thanks
Paul

Jeff,
My BRMS chops are very rusty, no longer involved with operations for
6+ years, but I think BRMS wants more media and you think BRMS should
have already completed the dup ?

Maybe check "first 6 labels" to see what has actually been "duped" ?
1) BRMS is not writing/re-writing ?

The first 6 labels get written to the virtual tape, then it errors.

2) different tape density = more media ?

I thought the virtual tape just kept expanding as needed. This dup worked
just a couple of months ago.

3) maybe BRMS is not able to accept "G" option
because it's "too far in the dup" and if you
Cancel/Re-try it works ?
4) not sure about "tape /drive/ to virtual" but
is there some significant difference from
from what you tested before ?

I was trying the /drive/ to virtual just to get a time estimate compared
to how long it took to dup from the /library/ to virtual. When dupping
from the /drive/ failed, I then tried it from the /library/ only because it
had worked from the library a couple of months ago. Then, when the
/library/ attempt failed, I started scratching my head.
