Before editting, ( with nano or vi editor in cli or with gedit) you can :

cp yourfile.conf yourfile.conf_backup

in order to be keep original file.

To find file your can also use :

"updatedb"

and after do

"locate your file.conf"

This way is faster but you need to often update database
