Folks:

This isn't related to IBM i ... but more of a heads up for people who are responsible for mail servers and/or domain registrations.

I monitor the outbound mail queue for the midrange lists and, when I see a mail server that isn't responding for an extended period of time ... I try to be a responsible netizine and notify the domain owner about the problem.

I usually use the whois information for a domain's registration to make the contact.

The problem is ... sometimes the email contacts for the domain registration are within the domain itself.

So if my server is having problems delivering to example.com and the only contact information in the whois database is 'joe@xxxxxxxxxxx', it makes it hard to notify Joe that there is a problem.

PLEASE consider using a different email address (on a different mail system) for at least one of the contact's on your domain registration so that you can be informed about mail server problems.

I wrote about this on my blog a while ago ... http://www.geekyramblings.net/2012/11/20/whois/

If you look at the whois information for all my domains, you'll see that I have both my midrange.com and fallingrock.net addresses as contact email's. Both midrange.com and fallingrock.net are hosted on different email systems so there's no risk of me not being able to get the message.
