Maybe the problem was in trying to "send" emails to the pop server! The pop server just reads mailboxes on behalf on clients that connect to it. It doesn't do any message storage. The SMTP server has a component that will "mailbox" received email. To receive email onto the i you'd have to fire up the smtp server as well as the pop server. Sorry if that re-iterates what you already know.

use IBM i for this, anyhow, just as the native SMTP server is not used
so much - it usually seems a good idea to avoid the native support (and
especially SNDDST) and merely use a relay on Exchange or some other
email server.

You still need some kind of POP client to receive the messages. I think
I mentioned that we just bought RJS Software's POP/400 package. There is
something free at easy400.net but it doesn't break out attachments.
Along with MMAIL at easy400.net is something else that can read POP3
mailboxes, but it takes a fair amount of setting up, I think.

I know the RJS product, since I used to work there. It is going to do
just fine for us, while there may be other options in addition to those
at easy400.net, but I'm not aware of them.

But why set up the pop server on the iseries? That just creates another hop. You can pull the messages directly from exchange using pop.

Remember, the i5 originates the email, but Exchange is sending it.
As I mentioned previously in this discussion, it doesn't matter how the email is going out. As long as the replies are being sent by Message-Media as normal emails, the regular email rules will apply to determine what server to deliver it to.

Once the email hits the Exchange server, you can use a rule to forward it to another email address that includes the i host name. Said rule would need to look for strings in the headers and/or subject and/or body to determine which emails to apply the rule to.

I.e. if your domain were example.com, forward/redirect tosomeemailaddress@xxxxxxxxxxxxx where i.example.com resolves to the IP address of your i system.
