Solid advice, good strategy Buck. We need a few programs to be launched in a *NEW activation group as opposed to *CALLER or NAMED, but that's just a nit.
The problem is that beginners perceive all the ILE functionality and
flexibility as a difficult maze and a set of decisions that they are
afraid will cripple their future development if they make one wrong move.
Sometimes it helps to show that there is in fact a simple way to get to
ILE without worrying that the infrastructure decisions made today will
turn out to be land mines tomorrow.
The more experienced ILE programmers know why such a simple strategy
works and most importantly, know why deviating from it for this or that
instance is the right thing to do. When we become experienced enough,
we write our own guidelines. Ken's reply illustrates this quite well.
