I did find that if you wanted the GUI and the black background then alt-d - Colors in the drop-down box select "GUI INPUT FIELDS" then select the black color.

that looks a little closer to the non GUI color setup. I still see a white vertical whit line at what looks like the end-of-input.

OK, I changed SOMETHING ... restarted tn5250j and it's working correctly now.

No clue what I specifically changed though. :( Clicking the apply button didn't make a difference when I was playing with the settings.
