Use the link below to map the DD or DMP device to the VIOS disk. The use the SST Disk option to remove units from configuration. This can be done with the system running. After the data is done migrating and the drive shows as non-configured, remove the host mapping inside VIOS using commands. This will allow you to assign it to the other partition without IPL'ing either one.

I've walked a couple of our customer's through this without issue.

Good luck!

Subject: How to remove VIOS disk on i

Here's a scenario:
VIOS partition on 570 hosting disk for i partition running V7R1. I created 4 virtual disks through the Virtual Storage Manager so there are 4 disks on the i partition, idisk1, idisk2, idisk3, and idisk4. Now I want to remove idisk3 and add it to a different partition but I don't know how to associate idisk3 in the Virtual Storage Manager with the correct disk on the i so I know which disk on the i to drain. It doesn't look like removing the disk in VSM offers the opportunity to drain the data before it removes the drive. How do I do this? Thanks.
