I meant an actual job site. :-))

They couldn't let go of the notion that construction cost accounting has
nothing to do with general ledger accounting. A hundred different cost codes
typically point at a single general ledger number.

You guys need to go visit a construction site some time.

Not a problem. I enjoy looking at new domains. And tailoring UI requirements
to meet them.

Your grid would need the capability for a guy to report time
to 5 or 6 different cost codes in a single day, an possibly
representing an equal number of pay rates.

Sounds like a data entry screen we're working on for school lunch workers.

This is why there are very few construction software packages out
there. The best ones are designed by industry veterans.

I understand that veterans will have unique domain specific knowledge. It
would be good for you to understand that a UI expert can adapt good UI
principles across many domains, and that 5250 interfaces have a lot of
constraints that can be overcome with browser user interfaces.

Even Oracle tried and failed to produce a cost accounting module
for their package.

Not surprised. They probably assigned 100 people with 40 different opinions
to the project.
