To get Java 7 on your system, you need to first install the 2 new options
that have been added to the JV1 product.

Once these new options are installed, You will then need to load and apply
the latest level for the Java Groups PTF. For IBM i 7.1 the Group PTF
number is SF99572 The most current level is 8. Please note, if you already
have level 8 applied to your system, you will need to Re-Apply that group
level once you have installed any new Java Product options.

For additional details on Java and IBM i, see the Java page on the IBM i
Zone of developer works.

subject: Java 7

TR4 is supposed to come out with Java 7
http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/rep_ca/6/649/ENUSA12-0256/ENUSA12-0256.PDF
IBM Developer Kit for Java (5761- JV1) has been enhanced to support Java 7
both
the 32-bit and 64-bit versions. This new support is only available on IBM
i 7.1. The
following two options have been added:
? 5761-JV1 option 14 Java SE 7 32 bit
? 5761-JV1 option 15 Java SE 7 64 bit

So, do I simply order SF99707 and, if I have Java loaded, it automatically
adds these two new options or are there other steps to take? Any negative
ramifications? Like, if stuff defaulted to an earlier version of Java it
may now abort on this new version and I'll have to fix the application or
change some configuration file somewhere to point the application to an
earlier version of Java?
