I recently had to do something like this.

I found it useful to use TcpCatcher (free at http://www.tcpcatcher.org)
while manually accessing the website in a browser -- it shows what the
website sends you and what the browser sends back. (There are other
tools, but TcpCatcher worked well for me.)

Then I wrote a C socket program to emulate the browser controlling the
website. It could be written in other languages, but we're familiar with C.

The process is sometimes called "web automation".

data. I've tried setting the values in the URL but it doesn't work.
