Folks:

As IBM is getting ready to roll out the next version of HMC, and a question was posed to me about the private network between the HMC and the FSP. Most of us use a simple ethernet cable between the HMC (Eth0) and the FSP and call it a day. That only works if there is only one FSP for each HMC. However if there are more than one system, or the HMC is not right next to the POWER System, then the network gets involved. Right now to set up the private LAN for the HMC/FSP you are forced to choose one of several network addresses/net mask combinations and live with that network.

How many of you would like the ability to specify the address AND netmask to be used? For instance if my corporate network is a 10.x.x.x network and I want to use 192.168.1.1 as my HMC/FSP network and I only want to allow 6 addresses on my HMC/FSP network I might choose a netmask of 255.255.255.248. Is this something we should press IBM to consider, or is it a non issue?
