I am attempting to export an IFS directory so an Apple MAC can see the

The MAC can only see a few of the files via SMB.
I think this problem is related to the characters in the file names.
I've had no end of difficulty getting a Mac to work with NetServer. My
opinion is the problem is with NetServer being a really crappy
implementation of CIFS/SMB. I recall with 510 that the Mac would
connect but all the file names showed up as Chinese ideographs--also
would only connect directly to a share and not to the system (i.e.
couldn't get a list of shares). SMB on the Mac is just Samba and since
Samba is supported by Netserver (at least on recent releases) it
should work as long as you're using compatible password models but see
my opinion on NetServer :) Anyway, there is a 3rd party implementation
of CIFS/SMB called Dave that implements all the weird WinDOS behaviour
and it seems to connect to NetServer quite happily--it looks just like
a WinDOS box to NetServer and bingo!
I have attempted to
share via NFS but I cannot get the MAC to mount the share. Does
anyone
have any suggestions on how to get a MAC to see the IFS? I have been
searching for and reading up on IFS exports but I cannot even get 2
iSeries to share a directory.
Using NFS between OS/400, Mac, and OS/2 is on my list of things to try
but it's been that way for years. I've got stuff on OS/400 and OS/2
that I'd like to access from my Mac but I just resort to FTP. I'll try
to take a look at it over the next few days and report what I learn.
When you attempt to mount the NFS export on the Mac do you get any
kind of error message? I know the Mac is not great at giving feedback
when things don't work--not sure which is worse; no error message but
didn't work, or the cryptic "Oops, it broke, OK" stuff WinDOS puts
out. There will likely be a log file somewhere on the Mac that
contains more information about why the mount failed.

Simon Coulter.
