What kind of data stream is actually in the spooled files? Is it IPDS?
The driver you've specified is *IPDS. The driver is waiting for the
printer to answer. IPDS is an interactive protocol. The driver and the
printer have an elaborate conversation. Is the printer listening on port
5001? Is it an IPDS printer?

I've only set up Intermec 3400 as LPD connections. That means the 3400
is running LPD, the AS400 has to run LPR. LPD usually listens on port
515. The easiest way to set up LPR on the i is remote outq. That usually
means the spooled file contains *USRASCII but you could also use Host
Print Transform(HPT) to convert from *SCS to PCL or whatever the printer
takes. As I recall TL Ashford is dumping the native print stream for the
Intermec into the spool file as *USRASCII and the printer driver needs
to leave it alone.

Subject: Setting up Intermec 3400 label printer

Hello everyone,

First of all, we are at V4R5, but soon getting new box at V5R4M5.

I have a bunch of Intermec 3400 label printers that are set with Twinax
and are working fine.

We use TL Ashford software for the creation of the labels.

I am trying to install a new one, but I don't want it configured as a
Remote OUTQ. The Users are setup with with WRKSPLF (Basic), so they
will not be able to move any labels to that printer.

When I setup my new printer, the SPLFs go to status PND and just sit
there. No error messages anyplace, nothing going on.

Here is a cut/paste of the configuration that I have used for the new
printer. I can't find any place that will give me a clue on what to use
for parms to do this.
