My understanding is if you do not keep you HMC up to date as well, a FSP
update can break communications to the HMC. Do you have an alternate
system console configured? The HMC and FSP need to be kept in sync.

Looking at switching from HMC managed FSP updates to i5/OS controlled.

reason is for convenience as we have a standard PTF application cycle,

nothing for the service processor updates. I am under the impression
that OS
managed FSP updates is not a best practice.
Was curious what you all think? Seems to me like there would be some
potentially major "gotchas"?
