I think I have misunderstood the command all these years. The help in French says Substituer un fichier BD which means replace a database file. On the IBM site I read Override with Data Base File. There's no WITH in the french translation.

Thus, it is easy to understand what is happening in English, but in French, I understand :

OVRDBF FILE(myfile) TOFILE(mylib/myfile) /* replace the DBF named myfile with the tofile. */
OVRPRTF FILE(myfile) SPLFNAME(splname) /* replace the PRTF named myfile with the tofile. */

Objet : RE: OVRDBF

OVRDBF FILE(myfile) TOFILE(mylib/myfile)
OVRPRTF FILE(myfile) SPLFNAME(splname)

After the ovrprtf, the ovrdbf is no longer effective. So
what do you
do if you have a dbf and a prtf with the same name?

Ideally you would pick one and rename it system-wide. You
may have some success with SECURE(*YES) on the second
parameter, but this is not something I have tried.

Short of that, remember that the FILE() parameter refers to
the filename identified in the source. So you could change
your filename in the RPG source (e.g. to myprt) and then do
OVRPRTF FILE(myprt) SPLFNAME(splfname).
The difficulty will be in getting the RPG to compile if the
file is externally described, but you would be able to
compile with the correct override in place.

Rename it, no matter how many places it's used; it's not
worth the fight or confusion. And whoever is in charge
should implement a standard naming convention so that such
things don't happen going forward.
