I did some reading on the RCLSTG command (hadn't done one in years) and
discovered that an IPL was also first desirable to review objects that were
in a 'temporary' state. Did that and the storage used went down from 60% to
35%. Wow. Whatever that runaway ftp was doing, it was eating up some
space. Now I'm going to do the RCLSTG command and see what happens.

Thanks for all the advice.

Even ENDJOB OPTION(*IMMED) "can leave stuff in an inconsistent state" for
which a RCLSTG might be desirable. See the caveats noted for use of *IMMED
on the OPTION() parameter.

However unless there is some specific symptom that should or needs to be
addressed by a request to /reclaim storage/, there should be little reason
to plan for performing the request anytime soon. If for example, the
available-storage level does not return to the expected and the PRTDSKINF
from a recent RTVDSKINF indicates there is some storage to be recovered,
that would be a symptom for which scheduling a RCLSTG would be in order. If
the FTP server does not start after the abnormal end, due to some error that
is expected to be resolved by a reclaim, only then would I schedule the
request; but then probably the more immediate than the near future :-)
