Well put, Scott.

I am a dinosaur then. I keep trying WDSc 7.0.0.0 Build20070202_0030 --
but on my work PC, just opening up a member takes almost a minute, so I
drop back to SEU and PDM all the time.

Yes, good code and good design do not require a great editor. I only
require an editor that does not get in my way, and one that facilitates
easy automation. The definition of business rules independent of UI is
the goal of programming today. If you do not have a separation of your
code from the UI, then future reuse of your code is questionable.

Although I see some advantages of WDSc/RDi, I admit that I find that PDM
"user actions" allow A LOT of automation for streamlining the building
of code, and for building those automation steps quickly. Indenting,
prototype generation, fast-paths to objects, and solid change control
commands are all available without going to Eclipse's Vendor-Add-On
Hell. So there are the pluses for many of us to continue to use SEU &
PDM every day.

But you could create great looking applications years ago using JSP.
You just had to learn Java. And now with EGL, you don't even have to
do
that.

Absolutely. JSP, JSF, EGL, PHP, Net.Data, CGIDEV2, RPGsp, Valence,
WebSmart... the list keeps going, I could probably name 30 ways to
create great looking applications.

That's exactly my point.

People are designing 1970 era green screens programs with RDi, or
similarly aged line-printer reports with RDi and saying "I'm really
modern now, I'm using WDSC/RDi/RDP and you are a dinosaur because you
are using green screen tools..."

Again, the important thing is whether you produce modern, well-written
code, with modern, agile, maintainable business rules, and a modern
well-designed UI. THAT is the goal.

The goal *isn't* what editor you type your code in.
