To start with, the question would be "How?"

There is no support for USB in IBM i so you can't hang it directly from
the system. You could hang it from a PC attached to the system but how
would you get the data to the drive? You could do a backup to Virtual
Tape and then FTP the virtual tape image to the PC and through that to
the USB drive.

Clearly not practical in my estimation.
