Wes,
The upgrade path on that box is to a 8203-E4A 520 (which is Power6).
Your current box is a 9406, Power5. You can't run V5R3 on the new box, but
you can run V5R4M5 or 6.1.x (where x is 0 or 1). The upgrade to V5R4M5 is
very very easy. The upgrade to 6.1.x will take a little more planning as
you have to make sure all your programs pass ANZOBJCVN, but still easy. In
either i5/OS upgrade path, you will definitely need to upgrade the firmware
on the FSP prior to your upgrade to either release.
Also, note that the upgrade path from your current box will be to a
2-core power6 box, and not a single core.

Subject: system upgrade
Advice/Opinion wanted. We have an I520, 5 years old, V5R3. 2
processors. We are contemplating upgrading to a new box. What would be
the newest version of this system (IBM of Course) that would follow a
logical upgrade path. I am looking for some opinions from the field
before approaching our Business Partner.
