I have often thought that it should be possible to run the AIX version of Samba under PASE, and that it might even perform better than the IBM i5/OS provided NetServer ...

At least, with Samba, it is "open source" and well-documented; there are whole books you can buy on how to set-up, configure and "tune" Samba, whereas IBM's NetServer is not exactly well-documented, and as far as I know, it provides no "tuning parameters" etc. :-o
